Responsibilities during an emergency evacuation –

Employees:

  • calmly proceed to the nearest exit and evacuate the building
  • go to your branch gathering post in the parking lot
  • keep guests and visitors from unsafely leaving the gathering area
  • immediately report to department attendance taker
  • remain in branch gathering area until ”all clear” signal is given by the Superintendent

Managers:

  • in addition to following the basic safety instructions above,
  • provide leadership for swift, orderly evacuation, insist on 100% compliance
  • check restrooms and closets to ensure complete evacuation
  • keep guests and visitors from unsafely leaving the gathering area
  • assist attendance takers with the roll process
  • remain in branch gathering area until “all clear” signal is given by the Superintendent
  • ensure safe and orderly re-entry into the building

Facilities and Maintenance Group:

  • convene at the fire alarm panel to determine validity of alarm
  • evaluate soundness/safety of building reentry
  • be available to discuss building layout/location of emergency with First Responders
  • inform Command post staff once building is safe for reentry.
  • NOTE: Custodial staff are to evacuate and await radio instruction.

Executive Staff (Cabinet):

  • safely and calmly evacuate the building when the fire alarm is sounded
  • ensure others are evacuating; provide leadership to ensure 100% compliance
  • proceed to branch Command post
  • discuss current building status with Facilities/Building Maintenance
  • collect attendance records and confirm that all SCCOE staff are accounted for

Superintendent issues an “all clear” signal when safe to re-enter the building
